Syria condemned an attack targeting the United Arab Emirates consulate in northern Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) area, calling it "a serious violation" of international law and a threat to regional stability.

On US social media company X, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said the strike constituted "a grave breach" of the protections afforded to diplomatic premises under international law.

The ministry expressed Syria’s full solidarity with the UAE, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.

It also warned against actions that could destabilize the region or endanger civilians and diplomatic facilities, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law and pursuing de-escalation to safeguard regional security and stability.

On Monday, Iraq’s KRG said that a drone fell near the UAE Consulate in Erbil, the regional capital.

Earlier, Iraqi media also reported explosions that coincided with sirens inside the compound housing the US Embassy in Baghdad.

Regional escalations have flared since Israel and the US launched a joint attack against Iran on Feb. 28, so far killing more than 1,200 people and injuring over 10,000.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
