Swiss President Guy Parmelin offered his country’s support Wednesday for mediation efforts following discussions with the leaders of Bahrain and Oman.

Parmelin said in a post on the US social media platform X that he spoke with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman al-Khalifa and Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to express Switzerland's solidarity during the regional escalation.

The president emphasized that a return to diplomacy is "essential for preventing further unnecessary casualties," noting that military actions are frequently directed against civilian populations.

"The attacks, which in many cases are directed against the civilian population, show that a return to diplomacy is essential for preventing further unnecessary casualties," he said.
