At least 18 killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza amid ceasefire violations
Strikes hit houses, school sheltering displaced Palestinians, vehicle within ‘yellow line’ in Gaza Strip
ISTANBUL
At least 18 people were killed and dozens injured Tuesday in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, marking a new violation of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, said medical sources.
The airstrikes were all located within what is known as the “yellow line,” medical sources and eyewitnesses told Anadolu.
The “yellow line” refers to the zone to which Israeli forces have withdrawn under the ceasefire agreement. It is a physical partition that runs through the Gaza Strip, dividing the Palestinian territory in half, and located inside Gaza, south of Gaza City and north of Khan Younis.
A strike targeted a home in the Sabra neighborhood in western Gaza City, killing four people, while nine others were injured and several remained missing under the rubble, the sources said.
The Israeli army killed three Palestinians in an airstrike that targeted a house in the al-Yarmouk area in central Gaza City.
A child was also killed and others were injured in an Israeli strike that hit an apartment on Al-Jalaa Street in the city’s west.
Another Israeli airstrike targeted a house in the Al-Shati refugee camp, also in western Gaza City.
Meanwhile, three Palestinians were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli strike that hit a school sheltering displaced people in the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.
Five more Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces struck a vehicle in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
An Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinians and injured others after striking an apartment in the Al-Amal neighborhood in western Khan Younis.
The Israeli army launched a series of air and artillery strikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday following orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to carry out “immediate, powerful strikes” in the enclave over alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas.
According to Anadolu reporters, an Israeli airstrike hit the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, while artillery fire targeted areas east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. Missiles also struck around the Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City.
The ceasefire agreement has been in place in Gaza since Oct. 10 under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan.
Phase one of the deal includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
Israel has killed more than 68,500 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,000 others in attacks in Gaza since October 2023.
