Scores of Houthi rebels have been killed in Saudi-led airstrikes in Yemeni capital Sanaa, according to a Yemeni military spokesman on Saturday.

The raids targeted a school used by Houthis as a military barracks in Nehm directorate in the capital late Friday, Saleh al-Quteibi told Anadolu Agency.

The casualties have not yet been confirmed by the rebels.

Last week, Houthi rebels shot dead former president Ali Abdullah Saleh in a major rift between the two former allies, who jointly overran Sanaa in 2014.

Yemen has been dogged by violence and chaos since 2014, when the Shia Houthi militia group overran much of the country.

Since 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have waged a devastating military campaign aimed at reversing the Houthis’ territorial gains and shoring up Yemen’s pro-Saudi government.
