Saudi Arabia intercepts cruise missile in center of country
Defense Ministry says air defenses destroyed cruise missile east of Al-Kharj governorate
ISTANBUL
Saudi Arabia said on Friday that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in the center of the country.
In a statement on US social media company X, a Defense Ministry spokesperson said a cruise missile was intercepted and destroyed east of Al-Kharj Governorate.
No reports of casualties or damage were reported.
Early on Friday, the kingdom said it intercepted three ballistic missiles targeting the kingdom’s Prince Sultan Air Base.
Iran has launched missiles and drones toward Israel and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets since Feb. 28. Some of the attacks have caused casualties and damage to civilian sites, including ports and residential buildings.
Tehran says the attacks are response to the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran that has killed hundreds of people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top military officials.
