Possible technical fault being investigated after Su-24 jet crashed upon takeoff at Khmeimim Airbase

MOSCOW
The crew of a Russian Su-24 warplane died when it crashed upon takeoff in Syria, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Khmeimim Airbase near Latakia on the country’s Mediterranean coast, a ministry statement said.
There were no survivors, it added.
A possible technical malfunction is being investigated as the cause of the crash, the defense ministry said.
