Qatar’s Ministry of Defense says it intercepted missile attack targeting country

ISTANBUL

Qatar’s Defense Ministry said early Saturday it intercepted missile attack targeting country.

Explosions heard in skies above Qatar's capital Doha after interception of aerial targets, according to the local media.

The Interior Ministry announced earlier in the day that authorities are evacuating “specified areas” as a “temporary precautionary measure” in the interest of public safety until security threats have subsided.

A statement on US social media X said the ministry urged citizens to rely on official sources for information and to adhere to issued instructions.

Since Israel and the US launched joint attacks against Iran on Feb. 28, so far killing some 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hostilities have escalated.

Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Iraq and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
