Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in the Omani capital, Muscat, on Tuesday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and address regional issues.

The emir was welcomed upon arrival by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, the Emiri Diwan said in a brief statement.

Qatari authorities said that the visit comes upon an invitation from Sultan Haitham to discuss bilateral relations and several issues of mutual interest.

Qatar and Oman launched a joint committee in 1995 to boost bilateral cooperation and partnership between the two Gulf neighbors.

Some 23 meetings of the joint committee have since been held, according to the Omani state news agency ONA.
