Qatar defending itself, not part of US-Israeli attacks on Iran: Foreign Ministry
Doha 'exercising its right to self-defense,’ rejects claims of participating in strikes targeting Iran
ISTANBUL
Qatar said Tuesday that it is defending its territory against Iranian attacks and is not part of the US-Israeli attacks targeting Iran.
“Qatar has not been part of the campaign targeting Iran. We are exercising our right in self defense and deterring Iranian attacks against our country,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari wrote on US social media company X.
He urged media outlets to rely on credible Qatari sources when reporting on Qatar.
The Defense Ministry said Monday that its air defenses shot down two SU-24 aircraft and intercepted seven ballistic missiles and five drones launched toward the Gulf state.
Tension has escalated across the region when the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack Saturday against Iran, killing nearly 800 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf countries, which are home to US assets.
