Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday reiterated his country’s condemnation of any attacks against civilians in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Tamim met in the capital Doha with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories, the emir’s office said in a statement.

“Qatar affirms condemnation of all forms of attacks targeting civilians,” Tamim said. He called for reducing escalation, “sparing civilians the consequences of the fighting, opening safe corridors in Gaza, and ensuring that violence does not expand regionally.”

The meeting also dwelt on the strategic relations between Qatar and Türkiye and the latest regional and international developments, the statement said.

Earlier, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani hailed Türkiye's support for the rights of Palestinians.

Israel has launched a relentless bombardment campaign on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas into Israeli territory on Oct. 7.

More than 7,900 people have been killed in the conflict, including at least 6,546 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis.

Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been running out of food, water, medicines and fuel, and aid convoys allowed into Gaza have carried only a fraction of what is needed.
