Palestinian factions call for UN resolution on forces planned to monitor Gaza ceasefire
During Cairo meeting, factions agree to transfer Gaza's administration to temporary technocratic committee composed of local independents
ISTANBUL
Palestinian factions and forces on Friday called for a UN resolution authorizing the deployment of temporary international forces to monitor the ceasefire in Gaza.
The remarks came in a joint statement published by the Hamas Telegram channel, following a meeting of Palestinian factions and forces held in Cairo at Egypt’s invitation, as part of the ongoing mediation efforts by Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar to end the war in Gaza.
The factions also agreed on supporting the implementation of the ceasefire deal, ensuring the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, lifting the blockade completely, reopening all crossings, and launching a comprehensive reconstruction process to restore normal life and end the suffering of Gazans.
They further agreed to transfer Gaza’s administration to a temporary technocratic committee of local independents, which would manage essential services in cooperation with Arab partners and international institutions.
An international committee would also be formed to supervise the funding and implementation of reconstruction projects, the statement added.
In addition, the factions urged the issuance of a UN resolution to authorize temporary international forces to monitor the ceasefire and maintain stability throughout Gaza.
They also called for “ending all forms of torture and abuse” against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and pressuring Israel to “comply with international laws and conventions protecting detainees’ rights.”
Finally, the factions agreed to convene an “urgent” national meeting that brings together all Palestinian parties to “forge a unified national strategy and to revitalize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.”
The first phase of Trump’s 20-point Gaza ceasefire deal was reached on Oct. 10.
Phase one includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
Since October 2023, the Israeli genocidal war has killed over 68,200 people and injured more than 170,300, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
