Palestine warns of grave consequences from Israel’s policy of forced displacement, home demolitions in West Bank
Palestine says Israeli practices reflect ‘official Israeli policy aimed at imposing more control over lives of Palestinians’

RAMALLAH, Palestine
Palestine warned Tuesday of grave consequences from Israel’s policy of forced displacement and home demolitions in the occupied West Bank.
“The (Israeli) occupation is carrying out the crime of forced displacement in the northern West Bank and forcing citizens to leave their homes at gunpoint,” the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said that 15,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from the Jenin refugee camp, dozens of families in Tulkarem and 20 others in the town of Tammoun.
On Jan. 21, the Israeli army launched an assault on Jenin city and its refugee camp, and was later expanded to the city of Tulkarem, where dozens of Palestinian homes were detonated, causing displacement to thousands of people.
The ministry condemned “Israel’s crimes of destroying neighborhoods and homes with explosives, and the resulting forced change of Palestinian geography."
“These crimes represent a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, and reflect an official Israeli policy aimed at imposing more control over the lives of Palestinians, and expanding the gradual annexation of large parts of the occupied West Bank in favor of settlements,” it added.
The ministry warned that the absence of decisive international measures “emboldens the Israeli occupation to escalate its crimes in the West Bank."
On Sunday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council to stop Israel's attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank.
The Israeli escalation in the occupied territory came after a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal took hold in Gaza on Jan. 19 following 15 months of Israel’s genocidal war that killed over 47,500 Palestinians and reduced the enclave to rubble.
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, at least 905 Palestinians have been killed across the occupied West Bank in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers, according to the Health Ministry.
