Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi called for adopting a cooperative approach Friday to safeguard freedom of navigation and protect maritime interests, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Albusaidi took part in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius via video link, alongside Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and several foreign ministers and senior officials from Indian Ocean countries.
Albusaidi urged a constructive, cooperative approach based on shared responsibility to ensure freedom of navigation and protect maritime interests, reaffirming Oman’s commitment to international law, including the law of the sea, as well as respect for state sovereignty and non-interference.
Albusaidi also stressed the importance of preserving the marine environment, addressing damage caused by conflicts, and achieving a sustainable balance between developing blue economy opportunities and protecting marine ecosystems.
He concluded by reaffirming Oman’s long-standing approach based on positive neutrality, dialogue, and mutual respect, calling for prioritizing cooperation to enhance security and stability, and ensuring a sustainable future for the Indian Ocean and its peoples.
