Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called Monday for international pressure on Israel to halt its repeated violations of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement.

"Lebanon and the Lebanese people do not want war and will not accept the Israeli occupation of their land," Berri said during a meeting in Beirut with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“We cannot succumb to these daily violations and attacks."

According to a statement issued by his office, Berri reiterated Lebanon’s full commitment to the ceasefire agreement with Israel.

The statement said discussions between Berri and Steinmeier focused on developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as relations between Lebanon and Germany.

The parliament speaker thanked the German president for his country’s support for Lebanon, and contributions to various development projects in the country.

Steinmeier, for his part, affirmed Germany’s continued support for Lebanon in various fields, and expressed his rejection of the Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory, according to the statement.

Steinmeier arrived in Lebanon on Sunday for a three-day visit, during which he will inaugurate a Lebanese naval academy in Beirut.

Israeli ceasefire violations have killed and wounded hundreds of Lebanese, while Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest war, in addition to other Lebanese areas it has held for decades.

Israel began military operations against Lebanon in October 2023 against the backdrop of the Gaza war and escalated them into a full-scale war in September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people and wounding about 17,000 others.

Lebanese officials have repeatedly called for pressure on Tel Aviv to halt its attacks and abide by the ceasefire terms, while Hezbollah has affirmed on more than one occasion its commitment to the truce, calling for withdrawal from the areas occupied by Israel during the last war.
