Kuwait says it intercepted ballistic missile, downed 15 drones in last 24 hours
2 drones hit refinery unit, causing fire without casualties
ISTANBUL
Kuwait said Friday that its air defense systems over the last 24 hours intercepted a ballistic missile and downed 15 hostile drones.
In a statement, the Defense Ministry said the country’s air defenses detected and destroyed one ballistic missile.
It added that 25 hostile drones were also detected in Kuwaiti airspace, with air defense systems intercepting and destroying 15 of them.
Two drones struck a unit at a refinery belonging to Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, causing a fire that was later brought under control by specialized teams without any casualties.
Eight other drones fell outside the threat zone without posing any danger, the ministry said.
The interceptions came as the US and Israel have continued an offensive on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with US military assets in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
