Israeli rights group demanded immediate release of Sumud Flotilla activists
'They are brought here against their will, so they cannot argue that they entered Israel illegally or that they violated any previous or prior ban,' Adalah's director says
ISTANBUL
The Israeli human rights organization "Adalah" demanded the immediate release of activists detained in the "illegal attack" on the Global Freedom Flotilla.
Adalah's Director Suhad Bishara said in a video that the organization's legal position is that Israel's intervention in international waters is "absolutely unlawful."
Tel Aviv is violating all of these frameworks of international law, Bishara asserted, adding that the volunteers face no legal consequences because they were not attempting to enter Israel but rather Gaza.
"We're talking about 500 activists on board all vessels. Some of the journalists have private lawyers. Otherwise, we will be representing them in the hearings, advising them before the hearings, visiting them in prison, representing them before the immigration tribunal, and making sure they live here safely," Adalah said.
"They are brought here against their will, so they cannot argue that they entered Israel illegally or that they violated any previous or prior ban," she said, adding that legally it "does not really have an illegal value."
