An Israeli force targeted a Syrian military airport west of capital Damascus, the regime-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported Friday.
SANA quoted a military source as saying that several missiles had been fired from Israel’s Lake Tiberias region "and landed in the surroundings of Al-Mezzeh Airport at 12:25 [local time] after midnight, causing a fire to erupt".
Regime forces and armed Syrian opposition groups had earlier fought for control of the Al-Mezzeh military airport, which is now held by the former.
Fighters from Lebanon’s Hezbollah militia -- a close ally of Syria’s Assad regime -- are currently deployed at the strategic airport.
In recent months, Israel has targeted a number of Hezbollah positions in the region.
