The Israeli army on Saturday said that it identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israel, adding that air defense systems were operating to intercept the threat.

According to Israeli news outlet Ynet, sirens were activated in the Eilat area in southern Israel.

Separately, the Israeli army said sirens also sounded in several settlements in the western Galilee near the Lebanese border after rocket launches were detected from Lebanon.

In a statement, the army said the alerts sounded in Zar’it, Avivim, Hosen, Ma’alot-Tarshiha, Gornot HaGalil, Goren and Tzuriel following the detection of a rocket fired from Lebanon.

The army later said sirens were also activated in the settlement of Malkia in the Finger of Galilee area in northern Israel.

No immediate reports of casualties or damage were available.

Since Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,200 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hostilities have escalated.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
