Israeli police have arrested several citizens accused of espionage during Israel’s recent conflict with Iran

JERUSALEM/ISTANBUL
Israeli police arrested a couple suspected of spying for Iran, authorities said on Tuesday.
A police statement said the couple were residents of the central city of Ra'anana and were arrested in a joint operation with the Shin Bet security service.
According to the statement, police raided the couple’s home on Monday and seized several mobile phones, computers, and additional technological equipment, along with communications devices.
The two suspects, both in their 30s, were taken into custody for further interrogation. They were scheduled to appear in court later Tuesday for a hearing on extending their detention.
This marks the second espionage-related arrest disclosed in two days.
On Monday, police announced the detention of three other Israelis in a separate investigation involving similar suspicions.
There was no comment from Iranian authorities on the report.
Israeli police have previously reported arrests of citizens accused of espionage during the country’s recent conflict with Iran.
A conflict between Israel and Iran erupted on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian sites, killing at least 935 people and injuring over 5,600 others, the Health Ministry said.
Tehran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes on Israel, killing at least 29 people and wounding more than 3,400, according to figures released by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The conflict came to a halt under a US-sponsored ceasefire that took effect on June 24.
