The funeral of former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani -- held Tuesday in capital Tehran -- was marred by anti-Russian slogans shouted by some funeral attendees, according to footage shared on social-media websites.

In the footage, some Iranians who attended the funeral can be heard voicing sentiments critical of Russian policy and chanting anti-Russia slogans.

Some funeral attendees reportedly made their way to the Russian embassy, describing it as a "den of spies" and shouting "Death to Russia".

A prominent member of Iran’s reformist current, Rafsanjani served as president of Iran from 1977 to 1989.

Rafsanjani died of a heart attack Sunday at the age of 82.
