Gaza administrative committee chief lays out 4 priorities in enclave
Ali Shaath says restoring security, reviving economy, and rebuilding services are all key to stabilizing Gaza
ISTANBUL
The head of Gaza’s administrative body outlined four main priorities for the enclave during Thursday remarks at a meeting in Washington, saying the goal is to lay the groundwork for lasting peace and stability.
Ali Shaath, who heads the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), spoke at the first meeting of the Board of Peace.
Shaath said the first priority is “restoring security via professional civilian police under one authority, one law, and one weapon, including training and developing 5,000 guns and police to be deployed in 60 days.”
The second priority is “reviving economic activities and livelihoods, creating decent jobs, especially for our young population (of Gaza).”
Third, he said, the committee aims to “ensure sustainable emergency relief.”
The fourth priority is “restoring basic services, including electricity, water, health, and education, as well as improving access and freedom of movement.”
“Our mandate is simple,” Shaath said. “Step by step, to build the foundation for lasting peace, dignity and prosperity for the people of Gaza.”
