Fresh Israeli drone strike kills 1 in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire
Strikes in Aitaroun and Umm al-Tut come amid ongoing Israeli drone activity across southern Lebanon

BEIRUT
An Israeli drone strike killed one person Thursday in the southern Lebanese town of Aitaroun, in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement, authorities said.
The drone targeted a motorcycle on the Naqaa road in Aitaroun with a guided missile, the state news agency NNA reported.
The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed in a statement that the strike killed one person, without identifying him.
Separately, another Israeli drone reportedly carried out an airstrike on the nearby town of Umm al-Tut. No information was yet available about injuries.
Lebanese media also said that Israeli drones flew at low altitudes over the capital, Beirut, and its southern suburbs.
A fragile ceasefire has been in place in Lebanon since November that ended months of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese resistance group, Hezbollah, which escalated into a full-scale conflict in September.
Lebanese authorities have reported more than 1,470 Israeli violations of the truce, including the deaths of at least 130 victims and injuries to more than 375.
Under the ceasefire deal, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Israel refused to comply. It still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
