Strikes target airpots in UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq after US-Israeli attack on Iran
ISTANBUL
Five airports across four Arab countries sustained damage following Iranian missile and drone strikes in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks on Iran, according to official statements and media reports monitored by Anadolu.
The attacks targeted airports in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq, killing one person, injuring several others, and causing material damage.
UAE
Abu Dhabi Airports said Sunday that authorities were dealing with an incident resulting from the interception of an unidentified drone targeting Zayed International Airport.
The interception caused debris to fall, killing an Asian national and injuring seven others, the company said in a statement.
The Dubai Government Media Office also reported an incident at Dubai International Airport late Saturday, adding that emergency response teams were immediately activated.
The incident left four people injured, all of whom received urgent medical assistance, the office said, without giving details on responsibility.
Kuwait
Two drones targeted Kuwait International Airport late Saturday, causing material damage and minor injuries among several workers.
Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in a statement that a drone strike caused limited material damage and injuries to airport personnel.
A second drone struck the new Terminal 2 (T2) project at the same airport, causing material damage only, the state news agency KUNA, citing the Public Works Ministry.
Bahrain
Bahrain International Airport was also targeted by a drone, resulting in material damage but without causing casualties, the Interior Ministry said early Sunday.
The ministry said relevant authorities had begun procedures to secure the site.
Iraq
In northern Iraq, a drone fell near Erbil International Airport in the country’s Kurdish region early Sunday, according to local media.
Iraqi outlets, including Naynawh Al-Ghad TV, reported that the drone landed near the airport, where a US military base is located. Videos circulated on social media showed black smoke rising near the area.
The incident came after an Iraqi Shiite group known as Saraya Awliya al-Dam claimed responsibility for a suicide drone attack targeting US military facilities in the region.
The US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Saturday, with Tehran staging retaliatory missile and drone strikes.
Iran on Sunday confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top officials in Israeli and US attacks on the country.
