Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu held talks in Cairo on Monday to strengthen military and technical cooperation.

Sisi and Shoigu explored ways to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation between Egypt and Russia in various fields, including trade, tourism, military and politics, according to a statement from the presidency.

The two sides stressed the importance of building on the understandings reached in May 2025, such as the establishment of a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant project in northwestern Egypt.

Sisi reaffirmed “Egypt's support for all efforts to end the Russian-Ukraine crisis and achieve comprehensive peace,” the statement said.

Shoigu, for his part, expressed Russia’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to reach stability in the Middle East region, stressing Moscow’s continued coordination with Cairo in this context, according to the presidency.

Egypt and Russia share a long-standing partnership, rooted in the Soviet-era military ties, and have since expanded their relations to include economic, technical and strategic fields.
