Reports said air defenses intercepted the drone before it reached its intended target.
Later, Iraqi media said air defenses were activated again around the airport amid concerns over possible aerial threats.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage following the incident.
The airport area hosts several diplomatic and military facilities used by foreign missions and international forces.
