GAZA CITY, Palestine / ISTANBUL

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip announced Saturday that the number of child deaths caused by cold weather since the start of the current winter season has risen to 10.

The increase came amid dire humanitarian conditions faced by Gaza’s residents after two years of the Israeli genocide, as Tel Aviv failed to meet its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, including opening border crossings and allowing the agreed quantities of relief, humanitarian, medical, and shelter supplies to enter the enclave.

In a statement, the ministry said: “The child, Ali Abu Zour, aged three months, died due to severe cold at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital,” without specifying the date of death.

It added that the death “raises the number of child fatalities caused by cold weather since the beginning of the winter season to 10.”

The Israeli army has killed more than 71,000 people, most of them women and children, and injured over 171,000 in a brutal offensive since October 2023 that left Gaza in ruins.

Despite a ceasefire that began Oct. 10, Israel has continued to carry out attacks, killing 481 Palestinians and wounding 1,313, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
