Anadolu has documented the damage to Tehran’s Evin Prison, which holds political prisoners and was targeted by Israel on June 23.

The prison was hit by an Israeli airstrike on June 23, one day before the ceasefire.

In a statement issued six days after the attack, Asghar Jahangir, a spokesman for Iran's judiciary, said 71 people were killed in the Israeli strike, including prison staff, soldiers, inmates, families of convicts, and residents of nearby buildings.

Among the detainees in Evin Prison is Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who was convicted of "acting against national security."

Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 while still in prison.

An Anadolu team captured on-site footage of the extensive damage.

A prison official told Anadolu that the attack was carried out with seven missiles launched from warplanes.

It was seen that the prison's administrative building, hospital building, prosecutor's office building and visiting hall were targeted in the attack, and the administrative building in particular was largely reduced to rubble.

Inside the administrative building, furniture and documents were seen to be torn apart and scattered, and books in the library, including copies of the Holy Quran, were damaged.

Although the damage to the prison's hospital building appeared to be less severe than the administrative building, serious damage was noticeable.

After the attack, it was determined that the hospital building's exterior was partially damaged, and its windows and glass were broken. The rooms where the clinics were located also suffered major damage, and stretchers and medical equipment were observed to be unusable.
The prosecutor’s office suffered heavy damage to its ceiling and walls. It was reported that Ali Qenaatkar Mavardiani, a deputy prosecutor, was killed.

The Israeli strike occurred while prisoners were meeting with their families.

The viewing hall, which was targeted in the attack, also suffered serious damage, and it was reported that many prisoners and inmates, along with their families, were killed or injured.

The building where the viewing hall is located was also heavily damaged after the attack.

Some of the civilian buildings around the prison and the surrounding cars were also damaged in the attack.
