Anadolu a witness to damage in conflict zones of Libya's capital following ceasefire
As ceasefire takes effect Wednesday, gunfire, explosions cease, silence engulfs Tripoli

TRIPOLI, Libya/ ISTANBUL
Anadolu was witness to the damage to vehicles, homes, and shops in conflict zones of Libya’s capital Tripoli following the announcement of a ceasefire on Wednesday.
In the Bin Ashour and Fashloum neighborhoods of Tripoli, where the clashes were most intense, numerous vehicles were observed to be burned and damaged.
Several businesses were set on fire, numerous buildings suffered structural damage, and infrastructure in some areas was also affected.
Since the ceasefire took effect at noon Wednesday, the capital Tripoli has been engulfed in silence, with the sounds of gunfire and explosions coming to a halt.
While some shop owners have reopened, others remain closed.
Although daily life has not fully returned to normal, activity in the city has noticeably increased since the ceasefire.
The clashes first erupted on Monday following the death of Abdel Ghani al-Kikli, who heads the Stability Support Apparatus affiliated with the Presidential Council.
The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Tuesday expressed concern over the ongoing clashes in Tripoli.
"UNSMIL is deeply alarmed by escalating violence in densely populated neighborhoods of Tripoli for the second night in a row, placing countless civilians at grave risk," it said on X, calling for an "immediate” and “unconditional" ceasefire in all populated areas.
Earlier in the day, Libya’s Defense Ministry announced that a ceasefire had taken effect across Tripoli following renewed armed clashes, stating it aimed “to protect civilians, preserve state institutions, and avoid further escalation.”
Libya has remained in turmoil since 2011, when longtime ruler Muammar Gaddafi was ousted after four decades in power.
