Armed clashes erupted between two Iranian separatist groups in northern Iraq, killing at least two people and injuring two others, local media reported on Thursday.
According to Arab News, which cited a source in the Peshmerga forces of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq, the clashes took place in the Zagros area, east of Sulaymaniyah city, between two anti-Iranian regime groups known as the Kurdistan Toilers' Party and the Revolutionary Organization of the Toilers of Kurdistan.
The Peshmerga forces intervened to stop the clashes, according to the source, whose name was not mentioned by the daily.
While the reason for the fight is unknown, a 7-month unity agreement between them fell apart a few days ago.
Several Iranian Kurdish separatist groups are stationed in northern Iraq, with Iran accusing them of carrying out destabilizing activities in the border region.
