Two tourists were killed and four others injured in a stabbing attack Friday at a Red Sea holiday resort, the country’s interior ministry said.

Six female tourists were stabbed on a resort beach in eastern Egypt, a statement issued by the ministry said.

“Security authorities of the Red Sea directorate arrested a person who attacked a number of tourists with a knife on a beach of one of the hotels in the city of Hurghada,” the ministry said. “The incident resulted in the injury of six female tourists of different nationalities who were transferred to a hospital for treatment.”

The assailant may have swam from a public beach and snuck into the resort beach, according to preliminary reports.
