1 killed, several injured in SDF shelling in Syria’s Hasakah despite ceasefire
Large displacement movement reported after SDF attack on al-Safa village in Hasakah countryside
ISTANBUL
One person was killed and several others were injured in shelling by the terror group YPG/SDF in the northeastern Hasakah province on Monday, according to Syrian media.
The attack targeted al-Safa village in the Hasakah countryside, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said.
Alikhbaria TV reported a large displacement movement from the village after the attack.
“SDF members attacked the village, dispersed many families, and killed and injured many of us,” a displaced resident, whose name was not given, told SANA.
“Since yesterday (Sunday), we have been living in a state of extreme fear, and we are calling for support because we are being annihilated in our village,” he said.
The assault came despite the extension of a ceasefire between the Syrian government and the SDF by 15 days.
On Sunday, the Syrian Army accused the SDF of violating the ceasefire deal by targeting army deployment positions around the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) area in northern Syria.
