European intelligence chiefs warn Russian operations against NATO could intensify: Report

European intelligence chiefs have warned that Russia could intensify its operations against NATO countries in the coming months, including through sabotage, drone attacks, and limited incursions, according to The Guardian.

Michal Koudelka, head of the Czech Republic’s Security Information Service, said possible scenarios included a small-scale incursion into NATO territory, false-flag operations and extensive influence campaigns.

He warned that such developments could occur in “months, not years,” while stressing that efforts were underway to prevent them.

Latvian State Security Service chief Normunds Mezviets, however, said there were no signs of an imminent attack.

He acknowledged that Moscow appeared to be preparing for more decisive action in Europe but said it remained unclear whether this reflected concrete military plans or an attempt to spread fear and instability.

Mezviets said Russian operations were increasingly targeting railway networks, infrastructure supporting Ukraine and defense industry facilities.

Swedish military intelligence chief Thomas Nilsson predicted that Russian sabotage activities would intensify, citing the recent armed drone incident at Germany’s Leipzig airport as a “gamechanger.”

Nilsson said attacks capable of causing deaths or severely damaging critical infrastructure would represent a significant escalation.

The intelligence officials said Moscow’s objectives included weakening European support for Ukraine, creating divisions within NATO and alarming the public.

Koudelka said Russia’s approach was to escalate pressure in the hope that European countries would reduce their assistance to Kyiv.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously rejected claims that Russia intended to attack NATO, saying such speculation had no connection to Moscow’s plans.
