Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy briefed the US special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, on Kyiv’s counteroffensive in the eastern Donetsk region and the battlefield situation in his country.

“I briefed him on the situation at the front and the results of the counteroffensive operation near Dobropillia and Pokrovsk,” Zelenskyy said in a statement on US social media company X following the meeting held in New York late Monday.

Zelenskyy said that the meeting further touched on developing the cooperation between Kyiv and Washington, including the mutually beneficial agreements on drones and on the procurement of American weapons that Ukraine proposed to the US.

“I am grateful to Keith Kellogg for his support and assistance, and to US President Donald Trump for his efforts to bring the war to an end and stop the killings,” Zelenskyy added.

The meeting was also attended by the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, and Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.

In a separate statement on the US-based social media platform Facebook, Umerov said the meeting’s main focus was on weapons and security, procurement of US weapons, and joint drone programs for Ukraine’s defense.

“A separate topic was security guarantees and the protection of Ukrainian airspace. Partnership with the United States is critically important for strengthening our air defense and scaling up weapons production,” Umerov further said.

Zelenskyy is leading a Ukrainian delegation at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the general debate of which will open in New York on Tuesday and is set to close on Sept. 29.

The Ukrainian president said last week that his country's forces are conducting a counteroffensive against Russian troops in Donetsk, where he reported “fierce clashes” near the settlements of Pokrovsk and Dobropillia, which have been a key focus of Russian offensives in eastern Ukraine in recent months.
