Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private airline, has finalized a preliminary agreement that was signed in June into a firm order for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft, Airbus announced Thursday.

Total orders for the A321neo have risen to 280, with the new agreement.

The deal follows the carrier’s order in May for 20 A330neo widebody aircraft.

“This is not merely a commercial contract, but a symbol of trust, aspiration, and a shared vision for sustainable development and global connectivity,” Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said in a statement on Airbus' website.

Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Airbus executive vice president of sales of the commercial Aircraft business, said the efficiency and flexibility of the A321neo make it “an ideal platform” to support Vietjet’s growth plans.

In addition to the Airbus deal, the airline also ordered an additional 40 Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines last June to power its 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft.

Rolls-Royce said the order brings Vietjet’s total to 80 engines, including a previous order for 40 placed during last year’s Singapore Airshow.
