US stocks close mixed except Nasdaq; cryptocurrency down
Bitcoin recovers to $46,600 after 20% decline

ANKARA
US stocks closed mixed as major indices closed lower except Nasdaq and the cryptocurrency market plummeted, with a decline in Bitcoin on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones industrial average plummeted 269 points, or 0.76%, to 35,100, while the S&P 500 fell 15 points, or 0.34%, to 4,520.
The Nasdaq, however, increased 10 points, or 0.07%, to 15,374 with a rise in tech stocks. While Airbnb rose 4.4%, AMC Entertainment soared 8.75%.
Despite a strong opening, ExxonMobil and Chevron lost 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively, while ConocoPhillips fell 0.5%.
Oil prices lost around 1% as Brent crude was at $71.6 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate trading at $68.4.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 10.5% to 18.14. The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes rose 3.9% to 1.373%.
The dollar index was also up -- increasing 0.56% to 92.555.
Precious metals, on the other hand, showed losses of around 1.6% with gold falling to $1,793 per ounce and silver declining to $24.3.
After almost a 20% decline from its high earlier on Tuesday, Bitcoin recovered slightly to $46,600.
