Two Disney theme parks will reopen in the US state of California on April 30, CEO Bob Chapek said on Wednesday.

"We’ve seen the enthusiasm, the craving for people to return to our parks around the world," Chapek told the CNBC network.

Chapek said as people get vaccinated, they become more confident to travel and stay healthy. He added that Disney will provide temperature checks, masks, social distancing and improved hygiene around its theme parks.

Although amusement parks in Florida have recently reopened with state guidelines with limited capacity, the rules in California have kept parks closed.

New guidance in California allows theme parks to reopen on April 1 with 15% to 35% capacity.

The coronavirus pandemic led Disney to see revenue at its theme parks decline to $16.5 billion last year, down 37% from $26.2 billion the previous year.
