The UEFA launched a disciplinary investigation against the English Football Association (the FA) on Tuesday following incidents at the EURO 2020 final.

Disciplinary proceedings were opened after the EURO 2020 final game between Italy vs. England at London's Wembley Stadium, the UEFA said in a statement.

"Separately, and in accordance with Article 31(4) DR, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into events involving supporters which occurred inside and around the stadium," it added.

The FA has also been hit with four charges; invasion of the field of play by its supporters, throwing of objects by its supporters, disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem, and lighting of a firework by its supporters.

The UEFA also said that the case would be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body in time.

The English team lost to Italy Sunday night 3-2 on penalty shootouts after a successful tournament that was postponed last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Italy have been crowned the EURO 2020 champions, claiming their first European trophy since the EURO 1968.
