Turkish stocks up 1.06% at Thursday's close

ANKARA 

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday up 1.06% to close at 1,180.02 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 12.37 points from 1,167.65 points at Wednesday's close.

The index hovered between 1,165.83 and 1,184.61 points throughout the day.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 874 billion Turkish liras ($103.4 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 24.2 billion Turkish liras ($2.87 billion).

Compared to Tuesday, 75 stocks on the index rose, 21 fell, and four were flat.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, glass manufacturer Sisecam and real estate investment trust Emlak Konut.

Telecommunication company Alcatel Lucent Teletas was the best performer, with its shares up 9.95%, while stocks of Ege Endustri, which manufactures components for the automotive industry, dropped the most, losing 5.89%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,914.10 by market close, up from $1,903.50, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent oil was around $41.40 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT) on Thursday, with a day range of $40.33 to $41.42
