Turkish stocks looking down at midweek opening

ANKARA

Amid rising tensions in neighboring Iraq and Iran, Turkey's benchmark stock index slipped 1.46%, or 1,639.11 points, to start Wednesday at 110,960.81 points.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell by 1.07% to 112,599.92 points with a daily trading volume of 9.55 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.9770 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, up slightly from 5.9750 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.6670, versus 6.6640, and one British pound traded for 7.8680 Turkish liras, while it was 7.8590 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $69.19 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
