Turkish stocks down at Thursday's close

ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Thursday down 0.17% to close at 1,150.49 points.

After starting at 1,156.74 points on Thursday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 1.92 points from 1,152.41 points at Wednesday's close.

During the day, it hovered between 1,145.25 and 1,159.41 points -- 24 stocks on the index rose, 29 fell and the remaining was compared to Wednesday.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 839 billion Turkish liras ($107 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of some 18.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.37 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by glass producer Sisecam and energy giants Petkim and Tupras.

Food company Kerevitas Gıda was the best performer, with its shares up 9.88%, while stocks of Gubre Fabrika, the fertilizer manufacturer, dropped the most, losing 5.02%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,848.00 by market close, down from $1,890.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $42.88 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Thursday.
