The Turkish Embassy in Zambia held an event in the capital Lusaka on Sunday to mark Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day, observed annually on July 15.

Istem Circiroglu, Turkey’s ambassador to Zambia, officiated a friendly football match between two selected Turkish and Zambian teams.

In a speech before the match, Circiroglu underlined Turkey’s commitment to democracy and its spirit of unity, paying tribute to the patriots who bravely resisted and laid down their lives during the defeated July 15, 2016 coup in Turkey.

“Like Zambia, Turkey remains strongly committed to democracy and national unity. We all share common values and love for our country,” she said.

The envoy concluded her address with wishes for peace, stability, and prosperity for both Turkey and Zambia.
