Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Tuesday close

ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.71% to close Tuesday at 1,152.63 points.

After starting the day at 1,140.96 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 8.18 points over Monday's close of 1,144.45 points.

Borsa Istanbul will be open for a half-day on Wednesday and be closed on Thursday for observances of the Republic Day holiday on Thursday, Oct. 29

During Tuesday, the index hovered between 1,133.73 and 1,157.87 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 848 billion Turkish liras ($103 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 22.1 billion Turkish liras ($2.70 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by the Turkish Industrial Development Bank (TSKB) and private lenders Garanti and Sekerbank.

Paper/carton producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of Deva Holding, a pharmaceutical company, dropped the most, losing 6.48%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,900.25 by market close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $41.35 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. local time (1530GMT) on Tuesday.
