Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts midweek down

ANKARA 

Turkey's benchmark stock index fell 0.64%, or 646.09 points, on Wednesday to start the week at 100,416.41 points.

The BIST 100 index closed Tuesday at 101,062.51 points with a daily trading volume of 9.09 billion Turkish liras ($1.48 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.1480 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, versus 6.1330 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.9790, compared to 6.9700, and one British pound traded for 7.9700 Turkish liras. It was 8.0150 at Tuesday's close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $37.86 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
