Turkey's Borsa Istanbul starts day looking up

ISTANBUL 

Turkey's benchmark stock index started Thursday at 96,705.97 points with a daily increase of 0.89%, or 851.05 points.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index dropped 2.73% to close the day at 95,854.92 points with a daily trading volume of 17.17 billion Turkish liras ($2.5 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.9130 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday, compared to 6.8940 at Wednesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also went up to 7.5270, versus 7.4990, and one British pound traded for 8.6550 Turkish liras, while it was 8.6230 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $27.70 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
