Turkey's Borsa Istanbul hits new all-time high at close

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index hit a new all-time high on Tuesday, rising 1.42% to close at 1,459.69 points.

Starting the day at 1,445.42 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 20.40 points over Monday's close of 1,439.29 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,436.21 and 1,459.69 points. 

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.08 trillion Turkish liras ($145.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 29.6 billion Turkish liras ($4 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 56 stocks on the index rose, 43 fell, and one was flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by chemical fertilizer producer Gubre Fabrikalari, private lender Garanti BBVA, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Celebi, active in airport ground operations, was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while stocks of Selcuk Ecza Deposu, a pharmaceutical supplier, dropped the most, losing 4.86%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,879.50 by market close, up from $1,875.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $51.30 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT) on Tuesday.
