ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week at 98,758.96 points on Friday, up 0.60% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 98,449.46 points. As of daily close, it earned 587.98 points from Wednesday's close of 98,170.98 points.

On Thursday, the index was closed due to the National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

During the day, the index hovered between 97,929.33 points and 99,497.08 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 693.7 billion Turkish liras ($99.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.78 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 68 stocks on the index rose, 27 were down and five were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by medicine producer Eczacibasi, private lender Garanti and polyester producer Sasa.

Carton producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 9.98%, while shares of Tav Holding, which is active in airport operations, dropped the most, losing 3.85%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,738.10 by market close, up from $1,699.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was over $21.30 level per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Friday.
