ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 1,395.79 points, up 0.23%.

Starting the day at 1,392.84 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 3.22 points over Monday's close at 1,392.57 points.

During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,371.43 points, while its daily high was 1,400.77 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.07 trillion Turkish liras ($132.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 22.14 billion Turkish liras ($2.65 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 36 stocks on the index rose, 63 fell, and one was unchanged compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, automotive firm Ford Otosan and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Automotive producer Tofas was the best performer, with its shares up 7.58%, while stocks of cement producer Akcansa dropped the most, 5.16%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,683.05 by market close, down sharply from $1,724 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.40 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Tuesday.
