Trump says 'something good just may be happening' in Russia-Ukraine peace talks
'Is it really possible that big progress is being made in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine,' says US president
ISTANBUL
US President Donald Trump suggested Monday that progress may be occurring in Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations.
"Is it really possible that big progress is being made in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
"Don't believe it until you see it, but something good just may be happening," he added.
The remarks followed talks between senior US and Ukrainian officials on Sunday in Geneva, Switzerland, on a 28-point peace proposal.
The draft proposal reportedly requires Ukraine to concede territory, restrict its military size, and withdraw its NATO membership bid.
After the discussions, the US and Ukraine drafted an "updated and refined" peace framework, according to a joint statement saying talks showed "meaningful progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps."
The Kremlin announced Monday that Moscow has not received information from Washington regarding the Geneva consultations, saying Russia will wait for the outcome before assessing possible changes to the document.
