English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur dismissed their Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino late Tuesday over the team's poor form.

"We were extremely reluctant to make this change, and it is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste...Regrettably, domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said on the club’s website.

"It falls to the board to make the difficult decisions -- this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff -- but we do so in the club's best interests," Levy added.

Pochettino, 47, was appointed by Tottenham in May 2014 to manage the London club.

Last season, Tottenham became the UEFA Champions League runners-up after losing to Liverpool 2-0 in the final in Madrid.

This season, Tottenham experienced hard times in the Premier League as the Spurs had only three wins in 12 weeks.

The London team earned 14 points to occupy 14th spot in the league table.
