Swiss unable to secure lead against Wales as game at Baku Olympic Stadium ends 1-1

ANKARA

Switzerland drew with Wales 1-1 in a UEFA EURO 2020 Group A match on Saturday.

The Swiss team broke the deadlock in the 49th minute at Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan as forward Breel Embolo scored a header after a corner whipped by Xherdan Shaqiri, 1-0.

However, Wales leveled the match in the 74th minute. Forward Kieffer Moore's header beat Swiss goalie Yann Sommer.

Mario Gavranovic's goal in the 86th minute for Switzerland was disallowed for being offside.

So the game ended 1-1.

Italy lead Group A with 3 points after a 3-0 victory over Turkey in the EURO 2020 opener on Friday.

Wales and Switzerland bagged one point each on Saturday.

In the next match, Turkey will face Wales on Wednesday, also in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital.

On the same day, group leaders Italy will host Switzerland in Rome.
